Abstract
9566. Baltimore Woodstopper Co. and Neuhaus, C. April 26. Stoppers.-The stopper consists of a flared cupshaped part a, Fig. 2, of wood or other compressible material, and a metal core formed of two discs b, c<1> connected by a shank d. The lower disc b has a sharp edge, and the upper is formed with a flange c<2>. When the stopper is forced into the bottle mouth, as shown in Fig. 5, the wood &c. is compressed inwardly over the edge of the disc b, around the disc c', and under the flange c<2>. When in position, the flange c<2> covers the top edge of the cup a, and prevents evaporation of the liquid through the pores of the wood &c. The core is provided with an eye-piece e, to facilitate the withdrawal of the stopper.
