Tyres, elastic other than pneumatic; felloes or rims.-In the grooves 13 in the rim 5 are placed metal rings 3, the ends of which are oppositely screw-threaded to engage with a tightening-collar 10. The tyre 2 of rubber and canvas or similar material is looped at 17 to embrace the said rings. Under the thickened tread of the tyre is situated a strip 4 of spring steel, wood, or any suitable material, held in place by transverse strips 7 and adapted to be expanded to stretch the tyre by means of an oppositely screw-threaded socket shown in Fig. 3. Holes 11 are formed through the rim for the reception of the spokes, and recesses are left in the edges thereof and of the tyres opposite the tightening-devices. A shoulder or projection 12 may be provided to limit the motion of the tread of the tyre. The unoccupied portion of the recesses 13 may be filled with rubber or other suitable material.
