Abstract
2309. Jacobi, G. Jan. 28. Acetylene.-Relates to apparatus for generating acetylene at a constant rate by maintaining a constant supply of water to the carbide. Liquefied carbonic acid is admitted from a cylinder D to. a water reservoir A by means of a pipe t fitted with a cock. The carbonic acid forces water from the vessel A by the pipe r, which is also fitted with a cock, to a distributing-funnel 0 above a carbide container in the generator B. A branch of the pipe t, which is also fitted with a cock, communicates with the pipe r and admits carbonic acid to the stream of water for the purpose of distributing it over the carbide. The funnel pipe is hinged at f so that it may be turned out of the way when the generator is being charged. From the generator the gas passes through a cylinder C partly filled with glass wool and then through condensing-pipes to a holder G fitted with a pressure gauge.
