Abstract
2123. Auclair, G. June 26, A.D. 1897, [date claimed under Sec. 103 of Patents &c. Act, A.D. 1883]. Sawing.-Relates to a cylindrical saw for cutting staves for casks, with the required curvature. The saw F consists of a slightly-coned ring with teeth on one edge. This ring is pressed in contact with a pulley G of smaller diameter, by the driving- belt E, and is also supported by two guiding-pieces I, I<1>. The block of wood L from which the staves are sawn is fed against that side of the saw which is not in contact with the pulley G, the stave which is being cut off passing through the space between the saw and the pulley. The thickness of the stave is determined by the guide or fence K, one arm of which passes into the said space between the saw and pulley. The pulley G may be adjusted by the screw P, which actuates a saddle on which the axis of the pulley is mounted.
