Abstract
10,552. Richard, W. E. May 21. Sawing.-Relates to a circular sawing-machine for cutting wood paving-blocks, or cross-cutting timber for making packing cases or boxes, firewood, or the like. A number of circular saws E<1> are mounted at suitable points on a spindle E, which is mounted in bearings D on a sliding frame C. This frame is reciprocated by a bell crank I connected by the rod I<1> to a nut H, which is actuated by a screw on the shaft F. The shaft F is rotated in either direction by a reversing-gear consisting of open and cross belts running on pulleys G, G<1> (one of which may be smaller to give a quick return), and a friction clutch block G actuated by a sliding bar K. The reversal may be effected automatically at the end of each stroke by the nut H striking stops K<2> on the bar, or it may be effected by the hand-lever N which is connected to the bar K. Holding-down springs Q<1> on a shaft Q, actuated by a cam, clamp the timber while it is being sawn. The timber is also supported by the fence O and the end of the timber is pressed against the stop P.
