Abstract
891. Richardson, S. T., and Price, R. Jan. 12. Acetylene lamps for cycles, carriages, and other purposes. The water chamber A and the carbide chamber B are arranged side by side, and are in communication at their upper and lower ends by pipes C, E, respectively provided with cocks D, F, which are connected by a spindle G and simultaneously actuated by means of a handle f<1>. Removable covers a', b<1> are fitted to the chambers A, B, and air is admitted to the chamber A by a pipe a<3>, which is prolonged nearly to the bottom of the chamber to prevent the escape of gas. When the cocks D, F are opened, water traverses the pipe C to the chamber B, and the gas generated passes partly by the pipe E to the upper end of the chamber A to equalize the pressure on the water, and partly by the pipe M to the burner H. The top of the combustion chamber formed by the glass J and the reflector I carries the cowl, and is preferably hinged to facilitate cleaning.
