Abstract

Sifting.-In a rotary bolting-machine the sieve casing A is supported loosely on four rods B, and is driven by two crankpins f at opposite ends, intergeared both by bevel gear h, h<1> and by a belt over the discs F. To prevent friction and strain, the bearing-boxes for the pins f are held by universal or gimbal-like joints on bracket plates secured to the sieve casing. When the universally-pivoted connection is not employed, the special form of bearing shown in Fig. 5 is used. The crank-pin f has an enlarged head f<1>, and the box for its reception is formed partly in the bracket plate A<1> and partly in the cap A<2>, a lining x of antifriction metal being provided, and a depression or cup C being left above for the reception of oil &c. Five sieves i, i<1>, i<2>, i<3>, i<4> are employed, the materials being fed in at k and traversing them successively. The tailings from i, i<1>, and i<4> are discharged at s, those from i<2> and i<3> being discharged on to i<3> and i<4> respectively. The materials passing i<2> and i<3> are separately discharged, vibrating weights w moving in channels in the collecting-trays n, n<1> assisting in the discharge. The finest materials of all, which pass i<4>, are discharged at n<3>. The sifting-cloth &c. is mounted in sliding and separately-removable trays.
