Abstract

23,741. Martin, P. A. Oct. 15. Bags for cycles &c. The body of the bag is formed of two triangular pieces of leather &c., two edges of each of which are folded over one another and laced together. The bag is closed by a double flap e, pivoted at c<5> to the body. The bag is suspended and the flaps secured by one or two pairs of straps f, which are attached to or pass through loops in the upper part of the double flap, round the horizontal bar b<1> of the bicycle, and are fastened to the side parts g of buckles on each of the flaps, while the central part g<1> of each buckle is secured by the strap h attached to the side of the bag. The bag may therefore be opened from either side, the double flap e, when one side is loosened, turning on the pivots c<5> so as to expose the mouth of the bag. The ends of the lacing- straps are attached to the bag by rivets, and the straps h, f are provided with T-shaped ends or the like, which engage wih cuts or loops in the bag ; d is an auxiliary fastening-strap. Fig. 9 shows a bag in which the flap a is made separate from the body part and attached to it by shouldered projections a<2> on the flap engaging with cuts or loops in the body of the bag. The suspending and securing straps c', c<2> are also attached by T-headed ends c<3>, which engage with the loops b<4>. Fig. 14 shows a method of attaching a strap to a buckle without sewing. The tongue j of the buckle is passed through an aperture in the strap, the strap is folded about the bar of the buckle, and one end of the strap is passed through an aperture i<1> near the other end until notches cut in the edges of the strap engage with the sides of the aperture.
