Abstract
12,685. Boult, A. J., [Grunert, A.]. May 22. Zithers, guitars, mandolins, &c.- Relates to plucking-devices for zithers, guitars, mandolins, and like instruments, the object being to produce a tremolo effect and regulate the strength of sound. Over the strings is arranged a bar or bars A capable of movement on vertical pins a, and supported on elastic blocks a', and carrying levers C to which plucking-fingers c' are attached. The swing of the levers is limited by slots in the top of the casing E, and by moving a lever rapidly back and forth a number of notes in quick succession is obtained. When a lever is pressed on, or the bar A as a whole depressed, the levers are lowered and a louder note obtained.
