Locking nuts.- The nut 5 for rail joints &c. is locked by a washer 6 placed in a recess in the face of the nut, notches 8 being made in the nut to enable the washer to be removed. The washer 6 has one or more teeth 7 to engage with a longitudinal groove or grooves 4 in the bolt, and has external teeth 11 to engage with the walls of the recess. In a modification, the washer is hexagonal and fits a correspondingly-shaped recess in the nut. The washer may be kept in place by a ring 13 with barbed arms 14 which embrace the nut and engage with the recesses 10.
