Abstract

15,567. Bromhead, S. S., [Pike, G. B. M.]. July 14. Bolts; nuts; locking nuts.-Relates to a method of locking in position nuts used for securing together the ends of rails. The bolt D has a square head E and a screw - threaded part 2 to be screwed into the fishplate B on the outer side of the rail. The inner end of the bolt is reduced and screw-threaded to enter the nut F, which has an extension 5 tapped to receive it. The screwthreads 2, 3 are of opposite hands. The edges of the nuts are grooved to receive a locking-plate G provided with flanges 7 to enter the grooves. To prevent longitudinal motion of the locking-plate, tongues at the ends are bent over upon the two outer nuts of the joint. The method may be applied to any form of rail joint.
