4181. Forter, S. Feb. 16. Valves.-Reversing and like valves are constructed with water-sealed edges, the operating-shafts being also below the water. Fig. 1 shows in elevation and in section the valve casing 1 and the valve 5 with the water seals 4<a> and 4<b>. By means of the external lever and hanging links on the sides of the valve, the latter is raised and carried to the position shown in dotted lines, and there replaced in the seal. A counterbalancing spring 15 is provided.
