2281. List, J., and Munn, R. A. Jan. 28. Filters for steam generators.-Oil and other impurities are removed by filtering the water as it passes from the hot-well to the boiler. Fig. 2 shows in section one form of the apparatus. Within a tank A, constructed of cast iron or built up of plates and angle-irons, are placed a series of filters. These are formed of perforated metal cylinders N enclosing annular spaces which carry the filtering-material. In addition, each separate shell is covered by cloth or some similar substance. The elements of each filter are secured by their ends between top plates P and the false bottom C. Impure water, entering by the stop-valve M, passes around the filters and into the spaces T between the cylindrical elements. The purified water from the filter enters the space G below the false bottom, to be thence pumped into the boiler. A second example of a filtering-section is shown in the drawings accompanying the Specification. In each case, the sections, whether cylindrical or rectangular, are capable of easy separation into parts when cleansing or other operations are necessary. The water is preferably passed into purifier under pressure.
