Abstract

189,390. Santa Maria, C. R. March 2, 1922. Rackets.-In a tennis racket wherein some of the longitudinal strings are attached to a movable holder which may be drawn to tighten the strings by means of a tensioning rod passing through the entire length of the handle, the tensioning rod is made of flat shape and the usual reinforcing bolt at the neck of the racket is replaced by a bolt having an aperture through which the tensioning rod freely passes. As shown, the movable holder 7 containing revoluble rollers 9 is drawn down by a flat rod 2 passing through a slot in the reinforcing-bolt 14. The rod terminates in a nut 10 situated in a recess which may be closed by a screw stopper. By turning the nut 10 by means of a socket wrench 13 the tension of the strings may be adjusted. Additional rollers may be provided to facilitate movement of the transverse strings in the holes of the frame during the tightening process.
