Making packing discs; materials, special, for packing-discs.-A seal for producing a tight joint between the mouth of a receptacle and a closure placed thereon comprises a stiff disc of a fibrous vegetable material, such as cardboard, of loose texture, and an elastic air-tight skin of caoutchouc attached to one or both sides of the disc. To form the seal, a strip 2 of cardboard is taken from a roller 1, coated with adhesive from a trough 6 and passed, in conjunction with a strip 8 of caoutchouc from a roller 7, between rollers 9, 10 which press the two strips together. The seals are then stamped from the composite strip by a die 11. If soft caoutchouc is employed, the adhesive is dispensed with, the rollers 9, 10 being heated to cause the caoutchouc to adhere to the cardboard. In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) it is stated that the caoutchouc is made chemically indifferent by treating it with carbonic acid or radium. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
