Abstract

188,113. Brintons, Ltd., and Brinton, C. C. Aug. 26, 1921. Pile-fabric looms.-In looms for weaving tufted or pile fabrics, wherein the yarn forming the tufts is conveyed to and inserted in the fabric by grippers 7 having a rotary movement only, the carriers for the tuft-yarns 6 are moved up and down by jacquard mechanism &c. in the usual way, but are mounted in a fixed yarn carriage 1. The grippers 7 are mounted on a shaft 17 provided with a wheel 16 operated by a rack 14 slotted to receive a lever 12 operated by a cam 10 on a shaft 20, whilst a lever 27 on the shaft 17 is operated by a bell-crank lever 26, a link 34, and a lever 22 from a second cam 21. The grippers are first moved sufficiently in a clockwise direction to withdraw the selected yarns to the required extent and then remain in this position for some time whilst the usual knives are severing the yarns but towards the end of this operation are preferably moved slightly in an anticlockwise direction so as to relieve the tension on the few yarns not severed. The grippers then move in a clockwise direction to insert the pila yarns or tufts in the fell of the fabric. The cam 10 may be made with a central adjustable part 28, which may be substantially concentric with the shaft 20.
