Abstract

187,819. British Northrop Loom Co., Ltd., (Northrop Loom Co.). Oct. 4, 1921. Weft, cutting.-The temple is provided with a thread-parter comprising a stationary blade and a forked movable blade 10, Fig. 1, pivoted on a stud 11 and provided with an actuator 12, Figs. 1 and 4, having extensions 13 forming a counterweight, whereby the cutting-blade is moved to its open position. The extensions 13 are engaged by the lay to operate the parter before this engages the usual heel of the temple, but normally the thread-parter is locked in its inoperative position by a spring-controlled slidable detent 19, which is forced into and held in an inward position (to the left in Fig. 4), so as to be in the path of the actuator. The detent then retains the actuator in the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, so that it cannot be operated by the lay. When weft-replenishment is indicated, a bar is raised so as to engage a lateral rod &c. 47 on a locking-dog 43 engaging a rack 20 on the detent. The dog 43 is thereby raised and also raises a driving-pawl 38, whereby the detent is released and is moved to the right out of its locking position under the action of a spring 23. The actuator 12 is thereby freed and falls into position to be engaged by the lay, so that the thread-parter is operated and continues to be operated at each beat-up for some time. The actuator operates a plunger 25, thereby rocking a lever 26, 29 connected by lever-mechanism to the pawl 38, which engages the rack 20 and moves the detent, step by step, to the left till finally it moves in its locking position and holds the actuator in inoperative position until weft-replenichment is again indicated.
