187,484. Russell, C. Nov. 22, 1921. Hydrometers are provided with micrometer devices for measuring the extent to which the stem projects above the surface cf the liquid. As shown in Fig. 1 the hydrometer vessel a can be adjusted vertically bv means of a screw d until the surface of the liquid just contacts with the pointed end of a stem i, the upper end of which rests on the cross-bar g of the frame h. A micrometer j is then adjusted until it just contacts with the upper end of the stem of the hydrometer k, the reading of the micrometer furnishing the value of the projection of the stem. A lens m may be provided to facilitate setting and reading. The vessel a may be stationary, in which case the stem i and micrometer j are carried on a vertically-adjustable, head.
