Measuring cubical contents.-Apparatus for testing the porosity or voids in solid material consists of two vessels, one of which 3 has a fixed volume mark 6 to which the material to be tested is filled in. Water or other suitable liquid is then added from a vessel 7, full of water, to a level above the mark 6, after which the liquid is run off into the vessel 7 which has a volume scale 9 reading from the top. The volume to overflowing of the vessel 7 is equal to the volume of the vessel 3 to the mark 6, and on running off the liquid till it stands just at the mark 6, the volume of the voids or pores is read off directly on the scale 9. Instead of a mark 6 an overflow stopcock may be employed. A stand is provided for facilitating the use of the vessels. Instead of the vessel 7, a vessel 10 may be used having overflow and outflow stopcocks and a gauge-glass reading downwards.
