Stringed instruments, tuning-devices for. - A tuning device applicable to violins, harps, zithers, pianofortes &c., consists of a rod-like member a having turned-down ends b through which the string d passes, thus supporting the device, and carrying a screw g bearing on and deflecting the string. In a violin the tension of the string presses one of the ends b against a rib i on the tail-piece h. The bearing-end of the screw may be covered with ebonite or fibre, or provided with a rotatable cap.
