Abstract
187,006. Steven, J. A. July 9, 1921. Automatic motor starters.-In starters for alternating-current motors, resistance is cut out by the fall of a weight 2 retarded by a dash pot or the like 5 and a solenoid core 9 having a oneway mechanical connection with the resistance member acts in opposition to the weight so as to reinsert resistance when the solenoid is de-energized. In the construction shown, rollers 11 attached to the bottom of the core bear upon a swinging guide 13 connected through a link 16 and a lever 8 with a shaft 6 adapted to operate contact fingers 3. When the solenoid is energized the core is lifted clear of the swinging guide. A spring may replace the falling weight. The invention is designed for use with hoists controlled by remote push-buttons.
