Abstract
291. Brooman, C. E., [Miroude-Pichard, L.]. Jan. 28. Candles.-Relates to the manufacture of selfextinguishing candles. According to one method, the candle at the time of moulding is fitted at the bottom with a base-piece b, Fig. 1, of plaster, clay, or other incombustible material. The wick c may extend throughout the candle, or only to the top of the base-piece. According to another method, shown in Fig. 4, a cylinder b<1> of incombustible material is forced into the bottom of the candle at the time of moulding. The wick c may be continued by an iron wire c<1>. Or, as shown in Fig. 6, the wick may be shortened so as not to reach the bottom of the candle and carry a metal disc e. Or the wick may extend throughout the candle, and the lower part of it be impregnated with an incombustible chemical material.
