Abstract
186,621. Haighton, C. A. A. Oct. 1, 1921, [Convention date]. Vapour apparatus, arrangements of. -A mercury-vapour rectifier 3 is started automatically b y means of a solenoid 4 whenever any consuming device is switched in on the direct current side 9. The solenoid 4 is energized with alternating current from the secondary winding of the transformer 1, the core 5 connected to the rectifier is then attracted, and the rectifier is tilted in order to create the starting arc. When the rectifier is supplying continuous current, another solenoid 8 opens a swith 6 against the action of a spring 7 in order to break the circuit of the solenoid 4.
