Abstract
186,533. Gregory, C. Nov. 2, 1921. Endless-track vehicles.-In motor trucks in which track-laying units replace the rear driving- wheels, the units support the main frame through the axle springs and through additional springs at the forward ends of the units. Each unit comprises a pair of spaced members 18. 19, Fig. 3. on which are mounted track-engaging rollers 43, 50 and an idler sprocket 26. The members 18. 19 are united in front by a casting 20 formed with an eye through which passes a bolt 70 carrying springs 71, 72. The upper and lower ends of the bolt engage the end of a yoke member 68 attached to a beam passing transversely under the main frame and fitted with rollers so as to be capable of slight forward and rearward sliding motion arising from the flexing of the axle springs. The driving-sprocket comprises a tubular member 30, Fig. 3, having a radial flange 31 to which the rim 32 is bolted, and rotating in bearings 27, 28 secured to the members 18, 19 by U-bolts 29. The tubular member replaces the road wheel and is driven by a drive plate 35<1> mounted on an axle replacing the road-wheel driving-axle.
