Abstract

186,422. Webb & Co., Ltd., H. C., and Webb, C. H. June 28, 1921. Clutches, friction.-Shoes for clutches are formed by stamping or pressing from sheet metal cup-shaped members having a central perforation, the members being then severed diametrically. Two are-shaped elements a so formed are riveted together to form a shoe with flanges c. Perforations are formed at d for the shoe pivots, and at the other end the stampings are turned up at e to provide working faces for the operating-cam. In a modification a stamped spacing member is arranged between the plates a, and an embracing spring may encircle the limbs outside the spacing member, and adjacent to the brake lining or braking-surface. When a spring is used the pivot openings d may be semi-circular gaps adapted to embrace a single pivot.
