Abstract

Transformers. - In an oil-filled casing for transformers, reactances, oil switches, and the like, in which an auxiliary expansion chamber 12 is provided, collecting means are secured inside the main casing 10 to trap moisture passing from the expansion chamber to the main casing. In one arrangement, a small repceptacle is secured inside the cover below the communication passage 15 between the expansion chamber and the main casing, and the bottom of this receptacle is connected by a tube with a tap outside the cover. In a modification, Fig. 2, the receptacle 26 is formed integral with the cover, and is provided with an opening 28, communicating with the main casing and with a tap 29. A glass gauge 30 may also be provided to show the height to which water has collected in the receptacle. In another modification, Fig. 3, the receptacle comprises a ledge 36 with an upturned edge 37 extending around the inner periphery of the cover. The expansion chamber may be placed at the side of the cover, above the ledge, as shown, or it may be placed in the centre of the cover, in which case a deflector is provided to deflect any water passing from the expansion chamber to the main casing on to the ledge.
