Abstract

186,242. Alpers, H. Aug. 31, 1921. Saxophones. - An attachment for a saxophone comprises a sound - chamber positioned on the neck and having means controlling the communication between the chamber and the neck. The cylindrical casing 11 constituting the chamber is secured to the neck by a tube 12 extending through the casing, and communication is normally cut off by a spring-controlled slide-valve 14 operated by a rock-shaft provided with a key. At one end of the casing are a small opening surrounded by an internal tube to improve the tone, and a drainage opening 27. By opening the valve when it is desired to play notes above F, the usual notes are raised to higher octaves, and a note as high as Bb may be obtained without difficulty. The keys D, Eb, E, and F also may be dispensed with.
