Abstract

Jacks.-In jacks of the kind described in Specification 20930/13 the shell forming the reservoir is made in one piece with the part that carries the working parts, the bottom of the shell is formed by a detachable plate which acts as the base of the jack, and the passages for the liquid are formed either in the walls of the shell or in ribs formed thereon. The cylinder 1 in which works the telescopic ram is formed integral with a shell 2 closed by a detachable plate 3. The lower end of the cylinder 1 is closed by a screw plug 12 having an annular recess 13 into which opens a passage 10 formed in a rib 11 connecting the cylinder 1 and the barrel 5 of the force pump. A passage 14<x> connects the recess 13 with a vertical passage in which is a non-return valve 14. The non-return valve 15 in the main ram 16 is raised from its seating by a pin 18 on the plug 12 to permit the descent of the secondary ram 17. Liquid passes from the cylinder back to the reservoir through passages 21, 19 in ribs 22, 20, Fig. 2, on the shell 2 and a by-pass 24 in the valve 23. The passage between the upper end of the cylinder 1 and the reservoir may be formed in the cylinder wall, or in a rib on the outside of the cylinder, but preferably comprises a pipe 25 the free end of which is bent to bring it into register with the filling orifice of the reservoir to avoid any siphon action.
