Abstract

Clothes-posts. - An extensible post suitable as a clothes-prop comprises two or more sections adapted to slide on or within each other, one or more of the sections being provided with pivoted links, and each link being adapted to enclose an adjacent section and to hang at an angle therewith, so that the section may be extended freely in one direction, but jambs when moved in the opposite direction. In the construction shown in Fig. 5, the sections a, b, l are mounted telescopically, and holes m are provided in the outer sections to allow the links d to engage the adjacent interior sections. The lower sections b, l are tubular and have roughened surfaces p. Alternatively, the sections may be constructed to slide on each other, and, in such cases, alignment is maintained by means of an eye mounted on one section through which the adjacent section slides, or by adjacent sections having corresponding tongue-and-groove joints. The surface of the links d may have a knife edge, or be roughened, so as to engage the sliding section more securely.
