Abstract

185,844. Norwood, C. R., and Naish, W. A. June 11, 1921. Moulds; cores; clamping moulds.-Hand pouring moulds and cores for casting plates &c. of non-ferrous metals such as aluminium, magnesium, and their alloys are heated in situ by electric resistances in their walls. The mould walls a, b have cavities in which are arranged the resistances f controlled by a switch to vary the heat. The mould is covered with asbestos or other insulating material k held by steel sheets l. The moulds may have cores q, Fig. 7, operated by a screw r, ejectors t operated by a screw z, right and left handed screws n, o forming part of a machine for opening and closing the mould or other permanent fitments. The sand or metal cores of such moulds may also be heated similarly. The provisional Specification describes also moulds heated by steam or hot gases and states that the moulds of pressure casting- machines may be heated by the above-said means.
