Abstract

184,534. Plauson's (Parent Co.), Ltd., (Plauson, H.). April 11, 1921. Emulsions, making.-Emulsions in water of essential and etherial oils and like perfume or flavouring bases or of synthesied constituents thereof such as salol are made by subjecting these substances to high-speed mechanical disintegration in a colliod mill such as that described in Specification 155,836, [Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], in presence of a dispersator or a protective colloid. In place of water, other immiscible liquid such as glycerine or a mixture of glycerine and water may be used. Suitable dispersators, i.e. substances capable of aecelerating dispersion, are ketones, alcohols, and esters and compounds containing sulpho groups, for example turkey red oil, sulphonaphthenic acids, purified sulphite cellulose liquor. The products are colloidal dispersions, generally transparent, and are useful as flavourings and perfumes and in the manufacture of dentifrices. Specification 29451/97 also is referred to.
