Abstract

Ash-pits.-The walls 1 and bottom 2 of a producer are stationary and ash is discharged by means of a beam 13 rotating about the vertical axis and so shaped and fitted with ploughs and stirrers as to force the ash and clinker outwardly into the trough 9 whence it is removed by scoops 23 rotating with the beam. The main effect is obtained by the curved leading edges of'the beam but the downwardly-directed ploughs 21 coopetate to clear the underlying trough 7, while stirrers 22 agitate and break up the overlying ash bed. Teeth 13a are provided on the leading- edges of the beam. Each scoop 23 comprises an inclined leading portion 24 dipping into the trough and running up into an horizontal rear portion 25 from which the ash is swept as it passes the fixed blade 26. Each scoop dips deeper into the trough than the one in front of it so as to obtain a uniform lift of ash around the periphery. The apparatus is actuated through a toothed ring 15 running upon and between rollers 16, 17.
