Abstract

184,080. Berger, L. Sept 2, 1921. Electrical systems, automatic; track apparatus actuating signals on and for stopping trains.-In an automatic electric system, electromagnetic switches actuated by current from the train passing along track wires are situated at the ends of sections and connect adjacent sections when trains are therein. The trains are then in electric connection, and bell or the like signals on each train are operated and the brakes may be applied. The electromagnetic switches comprise sliding contacts 6a, 6b actuated by solenoids 2<a>, 2b to connect track wires 16, 17 when both solenoids are energized. Each solenoid is situated at the end of its section, and is energized through leads 18, 19 from batteries 22 carried on each train. When the leads 16, 17 of adjacent sections are connected by two trains therein, a circuit is completed, including a battery 27 and a bell or like signal 26 on each train. A telephone 28 may be included in the circuit, and a solenoid may be used to apply the brakes.
