335,936. Standard Telephones & Cables, Ltd., (Western Electric Co., Inc.). July 3, 1929. Inductive signalling. - In an inductive high frequency signalling system between a moving vehicle and a line L series inductances 1, 2 are provided to sectionalize the line as regards currents passing longitudinally over the line wires in parallel with earth return and means are provided to apply the longitudinal currents to the line as a metallic circuit, such as the translating device 3. The translating device may additionally include an amplifier, a filter and a demodulator to reduce the frequency. Fig. 3 shows a system in which the longitudinal currents after translation are applied to a second circuit so that different trains in different sections may be signalled. The demodulator 7 may be switched on by a train entering the section in conjunction with the automatic train control or the signal currents may be applied to rectifier 19, Fig. 5, and operate relay 10. Fig. 6 shows a modified arrangement of the line sectionalizing means by which reflection losses may be obviated comprising a low pass filter 12 bridged by a high pass filter 13, the mid point of the coils 14 of which is grounded through an impedance 16.
