Abstract

183,613. Nixon, A. E. May 7, 1921. Channels and reservoirs in pulleys.-A central recess 2 in the boss 1 acts as an oil-retaining chamber around the shaft 3 on which the boss is loosely mounted. A projection 4 picks up oil from the bottom of the chamber as the boss rotates and throws it onto the shaft. Oil travels along the shaft and is collected in annular recesses 6 and returns to the chamber by way of channels 7. The pulley &c. is formed in two parts, divided longitudinally or transversely, and bolted together. A hole 25 is provided for filling. The projection 4 may be cast integrally with the boss or secured thereto. In a modification a loose sleeve is mounted within the boss, formed in two parts with the central chamber between them across which the projecting ends of the lifting-vane meet. Additional recesses are formed in the outer periphery of the sleeve to facilitate the return of oil. Two or more interconnected oil-chambers may be provided in long bosses. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 26233/04, 4771/08, and 24823/12.
