Abstract
183,492. Lewis, B. Sept. 12, 1921. Focusing-devices. - Relates to focusing-arrangements for focal-plane cameras of the kind in which the focal-plane shutter forms the focusing- screen and is viewed from the front. The invention consists in means for pressing and holding the shutter against the sensitive plate during focusing, and for releasing the pressing means simultaneously with the release of the shutteroperating mechanism to make the exposure. A rectangular wire frame 17, hinged at 19 inside the camera, is displaced by an external finger-lever 20, against the action of a spring 22, to press the shutter 15 backwards into contact with the sensitive plate 16, i.e. into or approximately into, the focal plane of the camera. In this position, the lever 20 is held by a spring trigger 23, and a pivoted spring catch 25 which it carries snaps over the hooked end of a spring pawl 26 engaging the pinion 27 of the upper blind roller. To make the exposure, the trigger 23 is lifted by hand, bulb, or Bowden wire. The spring 22 withdraws the frame 17 from the shutter, and the catch 25 withdraws the pawl 26 from the pinion 27, thus releasing the shutter.
