Abstract

181,327. Jones, E. S. June 7, 1921, [Convention date]. Wheel guards, obstruction - removers, and safety appliances -An obstruction-remover for a vehicle comprises a web, wound on a spring roller, supported from the front axle by outwardly extending arms, the bottom of the web being connected to the ends of pivoted arms which are normally under spring pressure tending to lower them, the arms being released by means of a hand-lever operable from the driver's seat. The supporting-arms 6 are connected at one end to the front axle 5 and carry between their outer ends the spring-operated roller 7 on which is wound a web 13. Two levers 15 are pivoted to the axie 5 and are connected through their adjustable ends 15<1> with the bottom of the web, the opposite ends being connected by a bar 18 which is connected up by a rod 20 to a hand-lever 23, pivoted at 24, which is lowered by a spring 26 when the hand-lever is released from its catch 25 to lower the web 13. The hand-lever 23 may be released automatically during the application of the brakes.
