Fixed-chamber apparatus for granular material. -Telpher skips are charged with material such as coke from a measuring-chamber arranged beneath a bunker or like container and adapted to be filled from the bunker and emptied into the ships by the movement of the skip itself. In the. Figure the full lines show the arrangement of the parts while the measuring vessel c is discharging into the skip d, a pivoted door b covering the outlet from the bunker a. When the measuring-chamber has emptied, the skip is raised along the guides m and allows a counterweighted lever k which rests against a projection on the skip to turn and actuate a rod j and lever i so as to close the pivoted door e of the measuring chamber and lift the shoot f into the position shown bv the broken lines. The lever i is connected by a rod h to an arm g fixed to the door b of the bunker so that when the door of the measuring chamber has been closed the door of the bunker will be opened and the measuring- chamber refilled. When an empty skip descends the guides m, it rocks the lever k back into the position shown by full lines, thus closing the door b, opening the door e and lowering the shoot f, allowing the measuring-chamber to discharge.
