Abstract

180,806. Rea, R. March 21, 1921. Buildings and chambers.-Relates to dehydrators of the kind in which trays containing the materials are traversed longitudinally through a casing having an air-heating furnace at one end and a suction fan at the other, and consists in arranging the fan to draw smoke from the furnace and air through the casing. As shown, the casing is formed in sections A, B, C, Fig. 1, adapted to be bolted together and having inlet and outlet doors 33, 35 for the trays which are traversed intermittently through the casing upon rollers mounted upon inclined slideways secured to the sides of the casing. In operation, the furnace and fan are started so that air is drawn through openings 14 in the sides of the air-heater over the top and sides of the furnace. 10, Fig. 4, and through the casing, the smoke from the furnace being withdrawn through the damper-controlled pipes arranged outside the casing and connected with the smoke stack 21, Fig. 2, which is coiled upon the top of the furnace. The flow of air to and from tha casing is controlled by adjustable dampers arranged at the ends of the casing. In order to prevent discolouring of the fruit a pan 38 containing sulphur is placed in the air inlet of the heater.
