Abstract

180,031. Herbert, A. F. Feb. 15, 1921. Gauges.-A device for determining any error in the alignment of points or surfaces on three or more fixed objects consists of a bar a having two aligned flat surfaces b, c at its ends designed to rest upon two of the surfaces to be tested such as f, h and a flat surface d between the ends of the bar inclined to the plane of the two outer surfaces and intersecting it at e. By placing the gauge so that the three flat surfaces make contact with the three points or surfaces to be tested any error of alignment will cause the intermediate surface g to make contact at a point to the right or left of e, and by graduating the face of the bar adjacent to the intermediate surface the error of alignment may be read. In a modification the three flat surfaces are formed on the same side of the bar, so that the gauge mav be applied to the same side of three surfaces. When testing more than three objects, the gauge is moved consecutively.
