Description

Patented Aug. 26, 1924.
EMIL FOR-DER, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
TAPELINE HOLDER.
Application filed July 15, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL Fonnnn, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Tapeline Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a tapeline holder. The object of the invention is the production of a holder for the end of a tape line, by means of which it is held in proper operative position on an ob ect to be measured, and whereby only one person is required to measure short or long lengths of objects. A. second object of the invention is the production of a tape line holder, which is simple in construction and which can be formed from a single strip of material.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 represents a side elevation of an exemplification of the tape line holder, with its tape, and located in position on an object to be measured; Fig. 2 shows a top plan View of Fig. l and Fig. 3 shows a blank on a reduced scale, for making the tape line holder.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the tape line holder is indicated, to comprise the abutting leg, designated in its entirety by the letter A, and the latter consists of the parallel and adjacent members and 21, bent over each other as indicated at 22. The member 20 joins with the supporting member 23, which latter is at right angles thereto. The member 21 joins with the table 26, which latter is at right angles thereto. A. hook B is indicated with the lower member 27 which is bent over the table as indicated at 23 and bears thereon. A pron 29 is spaced from and parallel to the member 27. A curved portion 30 connects the member 2? and the prong 29. The curved portion 30 is preferably located somewhat to the rear of the plane of the member 20, so that when the link of a tape line is engaged with the hook B, the outer end of said link will be located in line with one end of an object to measured. A tape line 32 has connected thereto the usual link 33.
An objectto be measured is indicated in this instance as a block D with the end faces 35, 36 and the top face 37.
To use the holder the link 33 is engaged with the hook B, and the curved portion Serial No. 575,423.
30 of the latter will be positioned, so that the outer extremity 38 thereof will be located in line with the face 35, of the block 1). The holder is placed with the member 20 of the leg A bearing on the face 35 of the block D, and the supporting member 23 bears on the top face 37. The user then reads the tape in line with the face 36 in the usual way. It will be noted that no person is required to hold the link end of the tape line. In Fig. 3 is indicated the blank 40 with the prong 29, which is used in making the holder before it is bent to its finished form.
Various modifications may be made in the invention without departing from the scope thereof, and the present exemplification is v to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.
Having described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters latent and claim 1s:
1. In a tape line holder the combination of an abutting leg comprising a pair of parallel and adjacent members, a supporting member at right angles to the leg and extend ing from one of the members thereof, a table extending from the other member of the abutting leg and at right angles thereto, a hook comprising a lower member parallel and adjacent to said table and a prong parallel to and spaced from the lower member of the hook.
2. In a tape line holder formed of one piece of material the combination of an abutting leg comprising a pair of parallel members bent one over the other and bearing on each other, a supporting member extending from one of the members of the leg and at right angles thereto, a table extending from the other member of the leg and at right angles thereto, a hook comprising a lower member extending from the table and bearing thereon, a prong parallel to and spaced from the lower member of the hook, a portion connecting the prong and table positioned to lock with the link of a tape line, to locate the latter in proper position to measure objects with the tape line.
Signed at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, this 26th day of June, A. D. 1922.
EMIL FORDER.
