Inertia switches; electromagnetic switches. - In a burglar alarm system a relay g closes the circuit of an alarm-operating relay, when the current through it is interrupted or strengthened. As shown in Figs 1 and 4, the armature i carries contact springs A, B, m, n of which the springs A, B cooperate with contact screws C, D and the springs m, n, with the screws o, p. The armature i is normally maintained in its neutral position by the engagement of the spring k against the screw l. A pendulum switch, as shown in Fig. 6, and used in the system, is attached to a network arranged to cover a wall, ceiling, &c. and consists of a ball 15 suspended by a spring 14 in a casing 6. The circuit is normally closed through a resistance 7, but when the switch is oscillated the ball 15 contacts with the casing 6 thus cutting out the resistance 7 and strengthening the current in the relay g.
