Liquids, treating with gases.-A bubbling hood for a rectifying &c. column comprises a plate A having capped chimneys B for the passage of gases and one or more orifices D in the plate through which liquid descends to the next lower plate, the crosssection of the orifices being of such small dimensions that the liquid filling them adheres continually to their edges by capillarity. Delivery of liquid through the orifices and the height of liquid on the plates vary according to the supply of ascending gas. A circular guide-wall may surround the cap C, and in a further modification the quantity of liquid required on a plate may be reduced by the formation of funnels G terminated at their lower ends by the orifices, the minimum height of the funnels being the distance k between the solid edge of the caps and the bottom A of the plate.
