Abstract

178,695. Mond, A. L., (Hood Rubber Co.). March 29, 1921. Overshoes; connecting uppers to insoles and soles.-Rubber footwear of the overshoe type is made by cutting, from a sheet of elastic fabric coated with rubber, a blank 1, Fig. 1, adapted to form the upper and insole portions, which is folded and the edges 1<a> secured together by a flush seam. The article so made is stretched over a last 6 and a filler 2 applied so as to overlie the joined edges 1<a>, a sole-blank 4<a>, Fig. 4, having an integral heel-strap 4<d>, being then pressed on to the filler and upper so that its edges are carried slightly up over the sides of the upper. Finally the toe-cap 5 and the binding- strip 3 are applied and the shoe is varnished and vulcanized in the usual manner.
