Abstract
178,271. Chloride Electrical Storage Co., Ltd., (Ford, B.). March 1, 1921. Separators for storage batteries are made by forming a number of slits b in a sheet of celluloid, rubber, &c., and then pressing or stretching the strips a of unperforated material to cause the slits to expand in the direction of their width as shown in Fig. 3. The portions a of the same thickness as the rest of the sheet form channels when the sheet is expanded. The portions a may be in the form of bars of greater thickness than the remainder of the sheet so that when expanded they form ribs on the separator or lie flush therewith. Fig. 13 shows a cylindrical separator formed by slitting and expanding a cylinder of suitable material.
