Abstract

L i f t valves; leakage, detecting and discharging. -A valve 10, Figs. 1 and 2 is provided between the mixing chamber 9 and the burner tip of an oxyacetvlene torch to control the flow of gas without disturbing the setting of the oxygen and acetylene regulating valves 7, 8. The valve 10 comprises a cylindrical lift plug 24, Fig. 2, carrying an operating lever 32, Figs. 1 and 2 which moves in an inclined slot 41, Fig. 4, in a cover 36. The cover is perforated with holes 40 so that any gas which leaks past the packing 27 may escape and be perceived by its odour, and the packing adjusted. The lever 32 is screwed into an enlargement 30, and is provided with a recess 33 so that it can be used as a wrench for tightening the packing-nut 26, The cylindrical projection 34 is slotted at the end so that it may be turned by a tool until the hole 31 is opposite the recess 41, for the reception of the lever 32. A spring 35 is provided in the cover 36 to press the valve on its seat.
