Abstract

Counters for coins.-In a machine of the type described in Specification 21094/13, arrangements are made whereby the registering- mechanism may be adjusted at will, according to the size of the coins of a uniform denomination to be counted, so that the counter may receive uniform actuations irrespective of the particular denomination being counted. Coins are placed within the hopper 1, Figs. 1 and 2, and fall upon a rotating disc having pockets 10; these pockets pick up the coins and drop them on a smaller rotating disc 21. Cam-operated posts 18 engage the coins and force them past a lever 28, the swing of this lever being transmitted to a lever 36 having a pawl 38 which rotates a ratchet-wheel 39 through a distance proportional to the diameter of the coin. A disc 42 with internal teeth forms, with spring-actuated arms 43 attached to the ratchet-wheel, a detent which compensates for slight differences in the sizes of coins. The value of the coins registered is indicated by a pointer 41. For dealing with coins of different denominations an abutment screw a is fitted so as to limit in one direction the movement of the lever 28; this is set in definite positions by means of a spring-actuated set-screw b engaging with holes in the shaft of the screw a, Fig. 5. To adjust the machine for a smaller series of coins, the screw a is withdrawn a definite amount, allowing the small coins to impart the same movements to the lever as the larger ones did when the screw was further forward. A supplementary series of cam-operated posts h is fitted to deal with small coins. The detent disc 42 is made adjustable relatively to the framework 40 by being mounted in a ring c, Fig. 7, which is rotatable in the framework and may be fixed in any position by a spring-actuated bolt e engaging with holes in the framework. An external knob 9 is provided for zeroizing the units pointer.
