Abstract
468,978. Counting-apparatus. INTERNATIONAL COIN COUNTING MACHINE CO., Ltd., and RAND, L. A. Feb. 11, 1936, No. 4150. [Class 106 (i)] In a coin-counting machine of the type which ascertains the value of batches of mixed coins a mechanism for indicating the total and subtotal of the coins passed through the machine comprises two coaxial shafts each actuating an indicator, the shafts being normally coupled for rotation as a whole by the coin counting mechanism and being capable of relative rotation independently to enable the sub-total indicator to be reset after each operation. In the machine shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the coins are carried round by a table and caused to operate a quadrant rack 1 to an extent depending on the value of the coin. The rack 1 meshes with a rack 2 rotatably mounted on a hollow shaft 3 and having an extension 4 carrying a pawl 5 engaging the teeth of a ratchet wheel 6 loose on the shaft 3. The wheel 6 carries a pointer 7 that co-operates with a scale 8 to indicate the total value of the coins. Inequalities in the diameter of coins of the same denomination are allowed for by a link 9 pivoted to the extension 4 having a roller 11 at its end engaging the teeth of an annular ring 13. Each rotation of the ratchet wheel 6 through a snail cam 14 thereon operates a bell-crank 15 to actuate a counting mechanism 16. On a shaft 19 coaxial with the hollow shaft 3 is mounted a sub-total pointer 18 having projecting lugs 22 adapted to engage between the teeth of a wheel 23 secured to the shaft 3 so that the pointer 18 rotates with the pointer 7. The shaft 19 carries a snail cam 25 that operates a bell-crank to actuate a second counting mechanism 26. By pulling out the knob 24 against the action of spring 30 the lugs are disengaged. so that the sub-total pointer 18 can be zeroized. Rotation of the knob 24 before pulling it out serves to zeroizing the total pointer 7.
