Bottling.-Relates to apparatus for filling bottles &c. with liquid and of the type embodying a substantially cylindrical liquid-receiving casing formed with a conical seating therein for a conical valve and with a reduced bore beneath the seating, to receive slidably a hollow stem of the valve, the stem having, ports formed in its wall adjacent to the valve and projecting extensively from the lower end of the casing so that it can be pushed upwardly to raise the valve off its seat and allow liquid in the casing to pass through the ports into the stem. The ports 12, Fig. 1, in the hollow valve stem 9 are outwardly and upwardly inclined, and the delivery end 10 of the stem is fitted with a nozzle 13 having a bore 15 which merges at its upper end into the bore 11 of the stem 9. The nozzle 13 is provided with' a flange 14 to bear against the rim of the bottle &c., and one or more air grooves 17 are formed on the outside of the nozzle and continued on the under surface of the flange 14. The upper end 5 of the casing 1 containing the conical valve 8 may be screw-threaded for attachment to a supply tank. A helical spring may be arranged around the end 10 of the stem 9 so as to bear at one end against an adjustable collar 20 on the stem and at the other end on the lower extremity of the reduced end 2 of the casing 1. The valve may be operated by means of a lever pivoted to a bracket on the casing 1. Fig. 3 shows a supporting structure for the filling-device comprising a base-plate 22 fitted with an upright 23 on which the horizontal frame 24 is adjustable. The frame consists of two parallel arms fixed to a sleeve 26 and connected at the outer ends by a cross-piece 25. The filling device is carried by a rectangular block 29 having rollers 30 to run on the arms 24 and carrying rotatably a bracket arm 31 for the operating lever 32. A ring 35 at the lower end of the arm 31 has one or more screws or pins 34 engaging an annular groove 33, Fig. 4, in the cylindrical extension 32<1> of the block 29. The casing 1 passes through the bore of the block and is held in position by a spring 36 bearing against a ring 37 screwed on the end of the casing. The central ring portion 39 of the lever 32 is pivoted at 42 on a ring 43 screwed on the end of the sleeve 1, and the stem 41 is pivoted to the end 44 of the arm 31. Or the block may be formed with grooves to engage the arms 24. Fig. 7 shows several filling-devices 1 fitted in a common head 45 which can be raised or lowered by a hahd-lever 47 pivoted at 48 on the head and pivotally supported at 49 on the standard 50, the pivot 49 being carried by a vertically-adjustable bracket 51. The head is guided vertically on standards 52, and its movement is limited by adjustable stops 53. The cases 55 containing the bottle &c. to be filled run on rollers 56 and. are guided by rollers 57.
