Enron, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Island, in the county of Hall and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and: useful Improvements in Bottle- Filling Apparatus, of which the following is a specification, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in bottle-filling apparatus and it is primarily an object of the invention to provide. a novel andimproved apparatus of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in'small dairies.

, As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, S denotes a supporting structure comprising vertically disposed corner legs 1 thelower portions of which being connected by the cross members 2.
Carried by the upper portions of the legs 1 is the tank '1 adapter to hold a predetermined quantity of milk in bulk and which has in communication therewith through its bottom the filling valve V of any desired type wherein the valve 'is normally closed but is moved into open position when a bottle is pressed thereagainst from below.
Depending from the bottom of the tank '1 is an elongated tubular member 3 in which is telescopically engaged from below the upper end portion of an elongated rod 4: the lower end portion of the rod 4 contacting from above with the inner end portion of a lever 5. This lever 5 at a predetermined point intermediate its ends is pivotally supported, as at,6, by the lower portion of an arm 7 secured to and depending from a pair of cross members 2, the opposite end portion of the lever 5 being provided with a pedal 7 whereby the rod 4: may be manually moved upwardly upon requisite pressure being imposed by a foot upon the pedal 7'. When the foot is removed from the pedal the rod 4 will move downwardly by gravity. The outer portion of the lever 5 i disposed through the guide loop 8 securedto a leg 1 whereby said lever 5 is caused to move in a substantially fixed path of travel.
Carried by the rod 4 is the bottle conveyor C comprising a disc or cylindrical. plate 9 of requisite diameter through the axial centertof which is directed the rod i. The disc or plate Q-isfixed to the'rod 4: for movement therewith in a direction lengthwise of the rod and also for rotation with said rod. it
being understood that the telescopic engagement of the rod 4 within the tubular member 3 permitting said rod 4 to have unhindered rotary movement. 7 I
The central portion of the disc or plate .9 is provided with an upstanding block 10 the upper portion of which carries the plate 11 provided with the bottle receiving openings 12 overlying the marginal portion of the disc or plate 9 so that the bottles mounted upon the plate or disc 9 are effectively held thereon and equi-distantly spaced circumferentiall v'of the disc or plate 9.
As herein disclosed, my improved apparatus is of a size to permit the application of six bottles to the disc or plate 9 and as the rod 4 is moved upwardly by the pressure imposed upon the pedal 7, one of said bottles will contact with the valve V from below and will move the same into open position and thereby permitting the bottle to be filled.
After a bottle has been filled the disc or plate 9 is caused to drop and in order to rotate said disc or plate 9 sufiiciently to bring the succeeding bottle in proper position for engagement with the valve V, I provide the turning arm 14 one end portion of which being pivotally engaged, as at 15, to a cross member 9.. This arm 14 extends upwardly on a predetermined incline and iextends through a guide loop 16 carried by a second cross member 2 whereby is limited the extent of swinging movement of the turning armin either direction.
The under surface of the disc or plate 9 is provided with the radially disposed depending fianges 17 herein disclosed as six in number the same being also radial of the bottle receiving openings 12.
The arm 14 is constantly urged toward its limit of upward movement by a relatively light spring 18.
l/Vhen the disc or plate 9 is in its raised position the arm14 is disposed on an upward incline and as the disc or plate 9 moves downwardly the upper extremity of said arm 14 contacts with a flange-17 and as the arm 14 moves downwardly with the disc or plate 9, said disc or plate will be rotated to an extent suflicient to bring a succeeding bottle in proper position for engagement with the valve V when said disc or plate is again raised. The spring 18 possesses sufficient tension to cause the arm 14 to engage the carrier C with a force sufficient to permit said arm 14 to act as a brake whereby the carrier C will be prevented from rotating beyond the extent of rotation imparted thereto as a result of the coaction of thearm 14 with a flange 17. V
The tubular member 3 may be secured to the bottom wall of the tank T in any desired manner but preferably by the nuts 20 threaded upon said member and engaging the bottom wall from above and below. By this means the member 3 will be maintained rigidly in its desired position.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a bottle filling apparatus constructed in accordance'with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim 1. A bottle filling machine comprising, in combination, a supply tank, a normally closed filling valve depending therefrom, a member supported for both vertical movement and rotary movement, a bottle holding plate carried by said member and-moving therewith, said bottle holding plate being adapted to position the bottles below the valve, means for raising said bottle holding plate to bring a bottle into engagement with the filling valve, and means coacting with the bottle holding plate upon downward movement thereof to rotate said plate a distance suflicient to bring asucceeding bottle in position directly below the filling valve.

4. A bottle fillingapparatus comprising, in combination with a filling valve, a bottle holding plate, rotatable means supporting said plate for both vertical movement and rotary movement, means for lifting the plate to bring a bottle into operative engagement with the filling valve, a vertically swinging arm supported below the plate and contacting with the same to partially rotate the plate upon downward movement of the plate to bring a second bottle into position for engagement with the valve, and means for constantly urging said arm upwardly.
5. A bottle filling apparatus comprising, in combination with a filling valve, a bottle holding plate, rotatable means supporting said plate for both vertical movement and rotary movement, means for lifting the plate to bring a bottle into operative engagement with the filling valve, a turning arm supported below the plate and contacting with the same to partially rotate the plate upon downward movement of the plate to bring a second bottle into position for engagement with the valve, said plate be ng provided with depending flanges with which the arm engages.

A bottle filling apparatus comprising, in combination with a filling valve, a bottle holding plate, rotatable means supporting said plate for both vertical movement and rotary movement, means for lifting the plate to bring a bottle into operative engagement with the filling valve, a vertically swinging arm supported below the plate and contacting with the same to partially rotate the plate upon downward movement of the plate to bring a second bottle into position for engagement with the valve, and means for limiting the swinging movement of said arm in both directions.
